The Madison
County Volley Raiders were on the road once again on Thursday night. This time
the location was Mount Airy and the home of another squad of Raiders; Habersham Central. Madison
County’s varsity opened play on Thursday night with a 2-0 win over Shiloh by
scores of 25-21 and 25-19, but were handed their seventh loss of the season in
the nightcap losing to the host Habersham Raiders 0-2 (8-25, 16-25).
In the
opening set against Shiloh, the Raiders opened a 14-8 lead but had to hold off
Shiloh to take the 25-21 win. In the second set, Madison County never trailed
and ended up winning the set 25-19 to take the overall match. Habersham’s 9-2
squad swept the Raiders in the late action 25-8 and 25-16 to take the match
2-0.
The junior
varsity Raiders breezed past Shiloh 2-0 winning the first set 25-11 and second
set by a 25-16 score. Madison County opened a 10-2 lead in the second set to
pave the way to the match win. Habersham Central’s JV squad opened a 20-9 lead
before fighting off a Raider rally to earn the 25-12 win in the first set of the nightcap.
Madison County bounced back to edge Habersham in the second set 25-23 to force
a final deciding set. Habersham then picked up the match win by defeating the
Raiders 25-10 in the third set.
